Welcome to the Valley of the Sweets - Websites and Blogging (CIS-141 Week 2)

Hello and welcome to my new blog!

My name is Michelle Hryvnak-Davies and my personal mantra is to live in a world where my passion for technology, social media and learning can inspire growth in the community. My core values and strengths lie within technological prowess, quick learning and possessing a high degree of personal integrity.

As an IT Engineer at WNEP-TV, I've been invited to participate on tech conference panels, been interviewed by a wide variety of local publications and media, and I am an advisory board member of the Office Information Technology program for Luzerne County Community College. I possess an SBE certification as well as several Microsoft certifications. When I wasn't busy chasing down the technology gremlins at my former employer WQED-TV & FM, the home of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood in Pittsburgh, I spend my time volunteering at NEPA BlogCon (Northeast PA’s only blogging & social media conference), the Ross Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization, and contributing to an award-winning regional blogging directory, “NEPA Blogs.”

Much like the Farmers Insurance commercial saying "We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two" -- I have been around the internet since 1997 and my first modem was a 14.4 kbps dial-up (think: tin cans & string) connection. I've followed just about any type of social medium that has existed to communicate online. I am interested in all of the ways people connect online to find their tribes and hope this class will teach me some new techniques of doing so. That being said, I already have an extensive social media footprint. I invite you to follow me on the following platforms:

In addition, I just recently launched my own podcast and hope some of these marketing theories can apply to attracting new listeners and retaining our existing (small) audience. I hope to eventually launch my own podcast network.

In closing, the three topics I'd like to focus on to establish my thought leadership throughout the "interwebs" would be: community building, "Over the Top" (OTT) television and podcasting. By focusing on these topics, I would like to influence the attention of potential employers in the TV industry for job seeking purposes, potential podcast sponsors and anyone else in my community of followers that would be interested in learning more about these topics.

I hope you'll join me along in this journey over the next few weeks...
